to my wife

There are nine million bicycles in Beijing
That's a fact,
It's a thing we can't deny
Like the fact that I will love you till I die.

We are twelve billion light years from the edge,
That's a guess,
No-one can ever say it's true
But I know that I will always be with you.

I'm warmed by the fire of your love everyday
So don't call me a liar,
Just believe everything that I say

There are six billion people in the world
More or less
and it makes me feel quite small
But you're the one I love the most of all

We're high on the wire
With the world in our sight
And I'll never tire,
Of the love that you give me every night

There are nine million bicycles in Beijing
That's a Fact,
it's a thing we can't deny
Like the fact that I will love you till I die

And there are nine million bicycles in Beijing
And you know that I will love you till I die!

Intuition

Me : Infantry Road
Auto Driver : jhgSjgkkjgwefkj kjgfkegh Infantry Road?
Me : Hindu office
Auto Driver : kjhSFKjhkjhsf fsfsef Indian Express?
Me : Yes.

I want to come to my office. So I tell Infantry Road. Auto Driver says in Kannada where in Infantry Road. I say Hindu office. He replies near Indian Express. I say yes.

I dont know kannada. But I can make it. And Basu says "thats how you should learn language".

In my nokia phone if you open a message you will see below "Options". And when you choose option the first one you get is delete. and thats the one I almost always use. I feel what should be the order of different options in the list is done after doing a survey of customer behavior. Is this related to the first paragraph?

but a solid example is use of the intuitive SMS typer in Nokia. when you type something you dont have to give the exact letter but "it" decides from the three possible letters which can follow the previous letter. I couldnt get the name of this technology from Google.

Brand

I was almost convinced to buy a X620 from Samsung by that sales guy in the phone shop. It has lots of features and its cheap. But my wife remained firm on Nokia. It seems it has only one good feature. Its battery. And also ITS NOKIA. The same is true with my BSNL postpaid. It has got only one feature. When I am in the train on the way to my home, I can still talk to my home and Madhu. It has got the network. For that one single reason I dont even look at all the exciting offers in the market.

I wanted to buy one perfume for myself. I was showed all the different ones but ultimately I chose Brut. Because

  1. Vats uses it.
  2. My didi bought one for me from Shiliguri.

But in this case what is strange is Brut doesnt have ads in public domain in India. I am sure Vats or my didi doesnt know much about the brand. But still they use or buy Brut. Its kind of word of mouth I feel.

I goto shop to buy atta and never buy anything else other than Ashirbad from ITC. Today I thought I will buy Annapurna but then thought WHY. Ashirvad is really good why change it. Why take the risk. Thats what I think is first impression. Like first love. Doesnt go off easily. Thats how I goit stuck with Peter England for some time. So to compete with a established brand in market is really difficult. So if you are first in the market with a moderate impression, half of the war is won.

That way Close Up did a really good job. I didnt know anything other than Colgate for a looooong time. I have spent my teenage too brushing with that white paste. But Close Up comes and wins my heart with all its colors and gel and good ads. I dont know what new thing Annapurna can offer in the field of atta.

Can you brand vegetables and sell in India?

Mail from Akash

An account of yesterday's trek.

BilliKall Rangaswamy betta is close to Kanakpura. A tall mountain. 5 of us set out....Partha - my colleague, UdayShankar - 61 years - a veteran trekker, Swamy - 50 yrs - lead the group and Sharmila - 35yrs mother to a 10 & 7 yr kids

After bus and auto, breakfast and packed lunch on the way, reached a village and started the trek. First to greet me were a blue kingfisher, an Indian Roller & a Dronga. And, yes Wild-fires....forest fires.. Soon it was a suspicious owl which kept jumping from branch to branch seeing me. This walk alonga stream was too good....lotz of birds.....a few lambani boyz kept begging & following me.

Then the climb started.....nice climb...saw lotz of birds on the way...sound of the fire...smoke..amazing bird calls...Sharmila was clearly struggling...Partha & me stayed with her in turns...After close to 4 hrs we reached the top. Relaxed for an hour, had lunch and started back. A small pond had an interesting frog...spotted....and the lake view is from here.

It was to be an 1 hour max decent.....I was climbing down like a dream..a bea-eater kept posing for me. Amazing. Suddenly....realised something wrong with the crowd up...no sign of them....climbed back...found Sharmila in major pain...ankle twisted....and she was crawling. We had climbed down just 15%. The old man was ahead...and Swamy left saying he will makr arrangments to get an auto to the base of the hill.

So...it was Partha & me for the next 4 hours....getting this lady....who was hopping on one leg.....Phew....what an experience....lot of distracting talk....family...love...trekking....office...etc etcBoth of us were supporting her she held our shoulders and kept hopping.....it was real tough for her....for sometime we carried her on our hands....we did this as kids remember...the arms locked....and she sat...the sweaty hands were slipping....and it was more tiresome.

So..hop..hop...itz 5:15...85% covered....shez can't hop anymore....thanfully Swamy sent up a tractor driver...an young chap...so now with 3 of us....we decided to carry her down.....we lifted her up her legs wereon my shoulders.......the other two supported her back on their shoulders.......and we climbed down....lot of weight...with slipping stones..lot of momentum...the guyz behind sometimes couldn't see where they were stepping....risky....but we pulled this off...with many stops.

By 6, we reached the base...what an adventure...Partha & me had done the half-marathon together....and that was the most tough thing until this happened.

Sure...she will go on to be one of my close friends.

And...to all those who promised and ditched.....some strong untypable words.

Have a nice week.

Bye, Akash

Football and Ma Saraswati

প্রিয় বৌ,
We played football today morning. Called up Akash and Dinesh. One friend of Dinesh, Mohandas, came along. I dont know why Dinesh doesnt call him Mohan. Everytime he calls him "Mohandas".

Coming back to my house, I got some flowers from the garden downstair. Got the idol of Saraswati out. Baba chanted Mantra and I repeated and Offered pushpanjali.
IISc is celebrating Saraswati Puja on 5th the sunday. But I am going for a one-day trecking (finally) on the same day. So I dont know if I can make it.

Also today Dinesh is wearing funny shirt. Actually its not a funny shirt but he had a funny photograph with that shirt with chains. This was taken on our office annual day where he danced with lots of girls.

When coming to office today, just after cambridge layout, one tree is shading its leaves like anything. The place looks kind of interesting (Mohabbatein style). I got one inside the auto. These days I am moving only on autos. Ha ha!
